Overview

Tinkercad is an easy-to-use, web-based design platform that introduces young learners (ages 9-14) to 3D modeling, electronics, and coding. Created by Autodesk—the same company behind AutoCAD—Tinkercad serves as a beginner-friendly gateway to more advanced design tools. It helps kids build foundational skills before progressing to professional CAD software like AutoCAD.

Learning Goals

  1. Develop Basic 3D Modeling SkillsUnderstand fundamental design principles (shape manipulation, scaling, rotation).Create simple 3D models using Tinkercad’s interface.Explore basic geometric relationships to build structured designs.

Language of Instruction

We normally teach in English, but we're happy to try and accommodate lessons in Cantonese, Putonghua, Korean, Punjabi, or other languages when possible.

Format

Online (Zoom): Instructions will be provided before the lesson.
Small Classes: Usually one tutor to 2-6 students only.

Level Descriptions

Level 1

Getting Started with Tinkercad (7.5 hours)

  • Introduction to Tinkercad interface and basic tools.
  • Creating and manipulating simple 3D shapes.

Level 2

Building Structures & Composition (7.5 hours)

  • Designing multi-part objects using alignment and grouping tools.
  • Learning scaling, rotation, and precise object placement techniques.

Level 3

Functional 3D Designs (7.5 hours)

  • Creating models based on real-world objects (e.g., keychains, basic prototypes).
  • Understanding design iteration and refining creations.

Level 4

Introduction to CodeBlocks (7.5 hours)

  • Exploring the basics of block-based coding within Tinkercad.
  • Generating simple automated object transformations with CodeBlocks.

Level 5

Dynamic & Interactive Designs (7.5 hours)

  • Using loops and conditional statements to modify 3D models programmatically.
  • Applying coding concepts to create more complex structures.

Level 6

Advanced CodeBlocks & Design Thinking (7.5 hours)

  • Developing structured projects using CodeBlocks automation.
  • Applying problem-solving techniques to enhance design efficiency.

    Mr. Edwin worked in various multinational companies in Greater China, Hong Kong, and North America (including Silicon Valley, California, USA) in roles such as computer programming, systems analysis, management, and technical support. He also possesses extensive experience in education and training, having served as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Department of Information Systems at City University of Hong Kong, as well as teaching computer and mathematics subjects at secondary schools.
